Ellinogermaniki Agogi (EA) is an educational organization of private law, officially recognized by the state. EA was the first Greek educational organization, which applied ODL in secondary education in the year of 1993. It is an institutional member of EDEN (European Distance Education Network), STEDE (Science Teacher Education Development in Europe) network, and ECSITE (European Network of Science Centres and Museums) network.

Since 1998, the organization has the Research and Development (R&D) Department for the design, development, and implementation of research activities in education, expanding the collaboration with universities and research institutions across Europe. The R&D Department acts as an interface between the pedagogical research, the technological innovation, and the school community. The work of the R&D Department, which currently employs 18 full-time researchers, focuses on the following areas:

  • development of methodologies and empirical research to investigate processes of learning and knowledge acquisition in various subject-matter areas
  • collaboration with computer science departments and artificial intelligence labs for the development of computational models and eLearning systems
  • collaboration with universities and private companies for the development and testing of educational software
  • design of technology-supported learning environments

In the Next-Lab project, EA is involved in curriculum analysis and leads tasks devoted to the concept of the tutoring services and helpdesk, as well as concept and implementation of co-created Inquiry Learning Spaces.

Open Science Resources

Open Science Resources (OSR) is a collaborative project co-funded by the European Commission under the eContentplus programme, aiming at bridging the gap between formal and informal learning by creating a shared repository of educational activities and scientific digital objects that are located in European science museums and science centres. The OSR portal offers tools to develop learning activities (so-called educational pathways) following the Inquiry Based Science Education Model and using digital content blending formal and informal science education. The pathways and digital resources forming them are enhanced with educational and social metadata synthesis that maximizes their effective use in the learning process and reusability, thus creating Open Educational Resources.

The OSR portal also provides user communities with the necessary search and tagging tools and encourages them to use it to access digital content of the participating museums and science centres in an unobtrusive and intuitive way. The user-interfaces are multi-lingual and mobile friendly by design and allow both physical visit access mode and web access mode creating fascinating opportunities to interact with the science digital objects in innovative ways. The OSR portal currently includes around 250 educational pathways and more than 1,500 educational objects, while it is used by 3,200 registered users.

OSR is the winner of the Opal Award for Learning Contexts 2011, the IMS Global Learning Consortium 2011 (silver award), and the EDEN/IMS Award 2010 for Leading Practice in Learning Impact.
